River Hotel

The River Hotel is a perfectly located hotel in Oxford, on the banks of the River Thames, walking distance to Oxford main train station, bus station, and the central attractions of Oxford.  On the edge of the city, the hotel is in a quiet environment, with enjoyable countryside river walks in one direction, while the central Oxford tourist attractions are less than a five minute walk to the east.

Botley road closure at Railway Bridge

The closure of Botley road at the railway bridge should not impact your stay with us.
In March 2023 Network Rail announced the railway bridge will be closed to vehicle access from April until at least October 2024.  You will be able to drive down the Botley road from the A34 Seacourt Interchange as far as the River Hotel car park.
The Botley road will no longer be serving city centre traffic, so it will be much quieter, with less rush hour congestion and a quieter environment - we are looking forward to this change!
Our customers, who drive to Oxford, generally leave their car in the River Hotel car park for duration of their trip and walk under the railway bridge into the centre of Oxford, which takes ten minutes. The bridge will remain open for pedestrian access.   There is also a river walk along the Thames into Oxford.
When arriving at Oxford Rail Station or from the centre of Oxford, you will still be able to walk under the railway bridge to walk directly to the hotel. When the new rail station has been developed there will be a direct access from the west side of the station making it even easier to walk to the hotel.  Apart from the pleasant walk along the River Thames via Folly Bridge, you can also use the towpath along Oxford canal (equally pleasant), as well as a footbridge over the railway line at Osney Lane.

Car Parking

We have ample car parking on site.  Car parking is on site and included in most room rates. Residents are welcome to use our on site car park after check out on departure day.  If parking is not included in your room rate, it can be added as an additional at the time of booking.  View detailed directions on the next page.

Oxford Train Station

The River Hotel is an easy walk to the train station even with bags, taking two minutes at most.  Oxford railway station is a one hour journey to London Paddington and London Marylebone and less than hour to Birmingham New Street and Birmingham International.  Our business customers often ask us for the timetable to travel to Culham, Radley or Bicester Village. You can plan your rail journey at National Railway Enquiries and buy tickets via trainline.  View detailed directions on the next page.

Oxford Gloucester Green Bus Station

If you plan to travel to Oxford by bus, you will be pleased to know Oxford bus station is less than a ten minute walk from River Hotel. The bus service from Oxford to London is very convenient, dropping you in the centre of London and with buses departing throughout the day and night.   For buses to Tubney Woods there is a bus stop close to the River Hotel and the journey time is just 20-30 minutes.  View detailed directions on the next page.

Airlines

If you arriving by flight, there are excellent and regular connections to Oxford; airline buses run from Oxford to London Heathrow, London Luton and London Gatwick.  This is a much preferred route instead of travelling into central London on the train.

River Thames

Lying on the bank of the River Thames, we are in an excellent location to break your journey while walking the Thames Path Trail. Or when pleasure boating, canoeing or swimming the Thames.  We offer a boot room to dry wet clothing and portable craft can be stored overnight in the garden.
